Dear Friends & Supporters of the Frances Foundation For Kids Fighting Cancer :

Last year’s FF Carnival Against Cancer Gala was hugely successful with more than 950 guests and volunteers attending ---and most importantly, the joy and happiness you helped to bring  to more than 40 pediatric cancer families at the gala, about 100 pediatric cancer families overall, as well as raise funds that allow us to bring warm, immeasurable smiles and desperately needed financial assistance to our FF warriors and their families all year long. Our gala is a truly unique, exciting, enjoyable and  incomparable night that honors our pediatric cancer warriors and angels. See the attached group photo of the warriors at last year’s gala. Our guests tell us that our gala is a special, indescribable evening –an evening that means the world to so many.

We attach our 2018 Garden Of Inspiration Gala save the date and our gala sponsorship opportunities packet. There are multiple ways you can help us  bring the best of smiles  to a child battling cancer, e.g., donating a silent auction item and/or a gift basket, placing an ad in our colorful gala ad journal distributed to more than 1,000 businesses and individuals, a gala table sponsorship, a monetary donation, and of course joining us at the October gala ( $185 p/p) at the Ocean Place Resort. Formal invites will be forthcoming in about 3 weeks. PLEASE SHARE OUR GALA PACKET WITH YOUR FAMILIES, FRIENDS, C0-WORKERS & NEIGHBORS.

Tragically , since last year’s gala, 7 of our brave warriors ---Angeline ( Angie is smiling  in 2nd photo above at last year’s gala holding selfie sign)  , Sami,  Jake the Tank,  Nanie, Mariam, Om & Caron---valiantly earned their angels’ wings. These angels, our angels before them, and all of our pediatric cancer warriors., inspire us to compassionately and personally bring smiles to our kids and help to their families as best we can in the midst of their toughest times and worst nightmares.

We are grateful for all of your past generous support; and we look forward to your wonderful support of our October 20th gala -----see you there!!

Friday Night Update from Bob

Happy Friday to All :

It has been another hectic  but good FF week……on Tuesday 5 of our warriors and their families enjoyed a VIP suite at a BlueClaws game at First Energy Park with food and beverages and Boomer and smiles. Another 1 of our warriors is presently having fun at Great Adventure. Today the FF made a substantial  mortgage payment to relieve some serious stress for a struggling pediatric cancer family. Yesterday a business sponsor and supporter advised that they loved our gala so much last year that this year they would like to try to bring 100 of its clients & friends !

FRIENDLY REMINDER: OUR NEXT ALL TRUSTEES’ MEETING IS ON WEDNESDAY NIGHT, AUGUST 15TH, COMMENCING AT 6:30 PM. Our agenda and details will be forthcoming to all before the meeting.

Wishing all a sunny & safe & enjoyable weekend.

Sincerely,

Frances Foundation Picnic and Softball 2018

Dear All :

Saturday’s 12th Annual Daniel R. Shalloo Sr. Picnic & FF Softball tournament was as spectacular as the weather. It was an incredible day. All of our teams played in the spirit of the day ( for the most part), many competitive games, and most importantly, our warriors’ & angels’ families, and all of the children, thoroughly enjoyed everything and blessed us with their smiles.

Including our team’s players, fans , pediatric cancer families, FF volunteers, & guests, approximately 500 people attended our picnic and softball tournament this year. In total, this event,  inclusive of the raffle, raised about $35,000.00 for our mission of delivering smiles to treating pediatric cancer warriors, as well as financial assistance and comfort to their families, as compassionately and as personally as possible.

Approximately 75 plus volunteers made sure this day was amazingly special---including volunteer work by pediatric cancer survivors Daphne Neshay and Cody Schick---giving back. Jr. Trustees Cali & Taylor Woodside and friends were fantastic at the arts & crafts table, Jr. Trustee Syd Rubman in the sales department, Ambassador Claire D’Alessio serving the ice snow cones & popcorn, Volunteers Debbie DeFazio  & friends being our creative face painters, Jay Moves at DJ, OPERATION CUPCAKE bringing and personally serving 400 cupcakes, delicious food ( cheeseburgers, hot dogs, pizza, watermelon, cake, fruit, & the mac & cheese & salads donated by Cracked Olive, , great job by Lead UMP Jeff and his crew, water balloon and water spray park  fun, & our ceremony being led by GOD BLESS AMERICA sung by Sean Hanlon from the Holmdel Kiwanis , followed by a moment of silence for our warriors & angels & balloon release, , presentations of gifts to approximately 25 attending warriors’ & angels’ families, a beautiful inspiring song sung by warrior Jasmine Farrow and her sisters, and our super 50/50 raffle drawing.

3rd  place in our super 50/50  of $2,240.00 was won by a friend of trustee Libby DeCicco, 2nd place of $4,480.00 was won by a friend of trustee Don Sutton and is a member of the Monmouth County Sheriff’s  Department, and 1st place of $15,650.00 was won by long-time FF supporters and residents of Holmdel. .In all , the 50/50 winnings totaled more than $22,000.00.

Softball commish Trustee Chris Heugle and his softball committee did an excellent job with the exciting softball tournament won by Team MYA who defeated the MONMOUTH COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT team in the championship game. THANK YOU TO ALL TEAMS including HOLMDEL PBA, THE RAINBOW FOUNDATION ,VONAGE , HOWELL PBA, CRUISHING CANCER ( UNION BEACH FD), COOKIES CRUMBLERS, ACCESS SYSTEMS, TEAM MADI, TEAM GWENNIE, AND OUR ANGELS TEAM----&  ALL PLAYERS !!  !!

Attached above are 2 photos: (1)  Balloon release following a minute of silence in honor of our pediatric cancer warriors & angels; & (2)  Angel Jake the Tank Family, dad Mike, mom Janet, and sister Gianna standing by poster board photo of Jake hugging his dad at last year’s picnic with balloon stating “NO ONE BATTLES ALONE” , A GREAT PHOTO !! more photos on our facebook page.

Can’t thank everyone for all of your tremendous support for our kids & their families.

Mya Lin Terry Foundation
Congrats to our sister charity the Mya Lin Terry Foundation for an awesome Mya’s Warriors Jam today at BAR A…..and thank you to all attending FF trustees & friends . They held a cornhole tournament with about 32 teams participating; ......our FF team consisting of Libby and myself went down in OT. Playing to 21 , and our FF team down 20-15, Libby scored 7 points  on 1 turn to our opponents 2 to tie the score at 20 apiece. We EVENTUALLY lost 24-22. I share all of this because Libby scored ALL of our 22 points and I didn’t score a single point !! The FF team would have won the championship if Libby had any other partner besides me !!! It was great to see a # of our FF warrior and angels’ families there enjoying a good time.

Our newest FF warrior is  6 y/o Jack who is in the middle of intense treatments. The FF sent a huge gift basket from Dearborn Market to Jack and his family to enjoy. Below is a wonderful thank you with a quote from Jack’s mom which we received this morning. .

Good Morning All:

Please join me in thanking our dear FF  friends and partners Christina Aleksandrowski and Jen Scarpa, their husbands Bob & Paul, and their entire family, for a beautiful 3rd Annual Love Life 5K held yesterday morning at Manalapan Rec Center. See above attached photo.
This event is a beautiful tribute to Christina & Jen's mom, angel Debbie Musolino, who had a huge heart and generously supported the Frances Foundation during her own personal battle against cancer.

Our warrior McKenzy Hupke, who has endured 22 surgical procedures, beautifully sang the Star Spangled Banner and This is our Fight Song at the opening ceremony. We were also joined by our warriors  Cody Schick and Jackson Sharkey. Thanks as well to all FF trustees who joined us yesterday. Congratulations to trustees Chris Heugle & Melissa Heugle for having the best 5K times in their respective divisions.

  • During the last 2 years the FF has gifted approx. $600,000 to our children and families ( 300k in 2016 and 300k in 2017) ; and approx. $2,100,000.00 during the last 14 years to countless children fighting cancer and their families.

Good Morning All:
Please join me in recognizing and thanking our FF Ambassador Claire D’Alessio for her continued great efforts and services. In conjunction with the Easter holiday, Claire sent personalized cards and gift to 3 of our warriors………..Kanen Wear, Shane O’Donnell, and Christian Isola. Way to go Claire !!!
Yesterday the Frances Foundation received a $5,000.00 donation from Dynatec Systems, Inc. in memory of our angel Stephanie Bader. This generous donation was initiated by Roseann Fisher from Dynatec, who is a close friend of the Bader family. See emails below. We should also recognize the great efforts of our trustee Kelly Reilly , who served as a FF ambassador to Steph during her fight; and Kelly still serves as a FF ambassador to the Bader family.
Thank you again to Claire & Kelly !!

Remembering: Joseph Ahmed
A few years ago Joseph was a handsome, smart, & athletic high school student at Matawan HS until he eventually lost his hard fought battle to Ewing’s sarcoma. Before he passed I met Joseph and his family and awesome friends; and the FF provided some comfort and assistance to Joseph. I attach 1 of my favorite photos of Joseph, #53.

After Joseph passed, Joseph’s mom Junny and his family and friends started the Joseph Ahmed Foundation whose mission is to eradicate pediatric cancer thru research and trials.

Any compliment toward the FF from an angel’s parent is the best feedback we could possibly receive. Any compliment toward me personally is directed toward what we do as the Frances Foundation Family. Junny’s words & actions speak volumes about the differences we are all making in the lives of children.  I extend our thank you to Junny AND THE JOSEPH AHMED FOUNDATION , as well as our love & hugs & continued support.

Chick-Fil-A Donation (April 22, 2018)
I hope all is well.

The Chick-fil-A’s in Brick Township, Howell, Freehold and Monmouth Mall worked together this March in our annual cookie contest where we give 10% of our sales to the Frances Foundation.  Last year we were able to present a check worth $2,500 to your organization.
This year we raised $4,000 (a little more than 10% of our collective cookie sales for the month of March).  Our guests really came together this year to not only support our contest between each other but more importantly to support the Frances Foundation.
Thanks,
Ted Reim
